David K. Washington, Master Tailor and Clothier, represents a mastercraft from our community’s rich, creative past.  Dave, the owner of DW Designs, has designed brilliant items of clothing for over the last 17 years.  He has created clothing for a number of well known celebrities, professional athletes, and even civil rights icons!  A few of those who have been blessed to wear his clothing include:  No.30 former Carolina Panther Mike Minter (now a minister in the Charlotte), The Steve Harvey Show great Wendy Raquel Robinson (the well dressed principal who kept her students and Steve in line!!!), a number of North Carolina and National TV news and sportscasters, and the civil rights legend and Founder of the Rainbow Push Coalition, the Reverend Jesse Jackson.  Dave is currently putting together an ensemble for the Heisman winner and new, star quarterback of the Carolina Panther, Cam Newton.

Dave has worked with Mike over the past 5 years and the two are reaching out to young African males, highlighting that there is more that life can offer than just a possibility of being a professional athlete.  Dave, a former star college quarterback, hosts the DW Designs Business Leadership Institute that believes in the importance of CORE CONCEPTS that participants must be able to articulate and use through business as well as life.  Dave shared those concepts and talked about leadership and “Your Brand” with the CLF Summer Institute young men during The Art of Being A Gentleman workshop.  As a positive conclusion to the actively engaged presentation, Dave and Mike showed the young men how to tie “Windsor” knots and Dave generously gave each of the young men their own tie to keep for their future collections.  Thanks again to Dave Washington of DW Designs for sharing his life’s passion and work of giving back to those who will lead us into the future.

The day ended with the CLF Summer Institute participants traveling to Frankie’s Fun Park in Greenville for games, go cart rides, and lots of food.
