SUMMER INSTITUTE
The Community Leadership Forum Summer Institute is an at-risk prevention/intervention program designed for middle school age black males that will specifically focus on: conflict resolution skills, public speaking skills, respect for self and others, self discipline, and cultural connections.

The program is designed to enhance a positive frame of perspective for these young men and significantly increase their chances of earning a high school diploma. Choice Neighborhood middle schools/junior highs are selected as participating schools. Participating schools are asked to identify at-risk males enrolled in grades 6 through 8.  A team of school and community leaders are required to provide supportive services for the student during the regular year, as the Forum will continue a year long Enrichment Program.  The Summer Institute provides six weeks of highly concentrated developmental experiences, which includes weekly seminars, workshops and motivational trips, during the summer.

Proposed Workshops will include:

“I Never Heard of Him”: A Highlight of Successful Black Men That You Should Know About, But Don’t

So You Want to Be A Professional Athlete: The Reality of Black Men and Pro Sports (A Panel Presentation)

The Art of Being A Gentleman:  Swag, Style, and Proper Etiquette

“Where I’m From Is Better Than Where You’re From”:  The Makings of A Gang Member

Motivational Trips to:
The International Civil Rights Museum in Greensboro, NC
The Martin Luther King Center in Atlanta, GA
Georgia Aquarium
The World of Coca Cola

In addition to the seminars, the young men will be exposed to a number of interactive exercises that will motivate, inspire and uplift their daily outlook on life and give them various perspectives to build upon.
