Una Community Day
Una Community Day, September 26, 2011
Chief Jeff Hadden and his group of dedicated group of volunteer firefighters with the Una Community Fire Department hosted a well-attended Community Day that was fun filled with food, youth play areas and an educational controlled burn demonstration. The Una Fire Department along with members of the South Carolina Fire and Life Safety Education Association conducted the burn demonstration that showed two scenes: a home setting that showed how rapidly fire can spread and a fire sprinkler system’s rapid extinguishing of burgeoning flames. The SC Fire and Life Safety Education Association, headed by President Les Woods, was created with the goal of providing a forum for anyone interested in helping prevent injuries and heighten awareness of safety issues that affect us all.
The Una Community Fire Department stands as one of the best fire service stations in South Carolina. The station, located at 1025 Hayne Street, serves as a community center (not just a fire station) to a community that is arguably the most demographically diverse area in Spartanburg. On average, the fire department responds to about 475 calls a year and is blessed with the service of around 40 volunteers, with 2 paid daytime staff members.
Hats off to Chief Hadden and the Una Community Fire Department for a continued job well done!!!!!
