Aspen Globalization Seminar

In February 2011, Michael, along with four other Liberty Fellows from his class, traveled to the Middle East to participate in the "Era of Globalization" Seminar.
Leading in an Era of Globalization, is a six-day seminar that focuses on exploring the challenges of leading in an increasingly complex and intertwined world. This seminar is offered in a variety of locations around the world and taken with other Fellows from across the Aspen Global Leadership Network. Time is set aside for Fellows to discuss progress in the implementation of their leadership projects that are a requirement of their fellowships.

Michael has been selected along with 21 other Aspen Global Fellows to participate in a historic opportunity in China.  He will participate in the program  China: Behind the Curtain Beijing, China A Close-Up Look into Local Leadership Values, Challenges and Opportunities. Date: April 17th – 22nd, 2012 This should prove to be an awe inspiring opportunity for a heightened perspective on the next developing frontier in the Age Of Globalization (Michael's Aspen Seminar from last year in the Middle East).  This trip to China will further enhance Michael's knowledge and expanding skill set of leading in tough times and in uncommon situations.

The Aspen Global Leadership Network inaugural alumni seminar in China will combine the classic Aspen seminar approach of text-based dialogue with talks, debates, film and field visits to give Fellows a multidimensional view of modern-day China. The seminar will be modeled on the flow of the four seminars that
comprise our fellowship programs:

The Challenge of Leadership: A look at an array of Chinese political and business leaders. How have they managed complex leadership challenges within China? What can Fellows learn from them?

The Harmonious Society: A look at the values in tension in the Chinese view of the "good society". What trade-offs has China made? How have they been managed? Can they be sustained?

China in an Era of Globalization: A look into China's engagement -- political, economic, cultural -- with the world at-large. What are the sources of friction? And what leadership challenges do they imply for Fellows, for China and for the world?

The Promise of Leadership: A look into how the Chinese think about matters of legacy? Of the self in the world?
